IETM’s mapping on Contemporary Performing Arts in Lebanon

IETM launches the mapping ‘Contemporary Performing Arts in Lebanon: an overview’, which provides an outline of the Lebanese contemporary performing arts field, with its main issues and key actors.

This mapping, written by the French-Lebanese journalist Emmanuel Haddad, allows you to discover a vibrant and engaged artistic scene, committed to solidarity and open to international collaborations.

In the 4 years that passed between our Caravan to Beirut in 2012 and our Satellite meeting in October 2016, Lebanon received 1.6 million (more) refugees, and Beirut became one of the ‘twelve artistic cities of the future’. The Satellite meeting in Beirut focused on freedom of expression and tackled crucial topics such as artistic mobility, cultural policies, funding, gender equality in the cultural sector, the decentralisation of culture and much more.

Following the Satellite meeting, we release this mapping for all artists and cultural professionals interested to learn more about Lebanon and to broaden their network. The mapping guides you through the country's political situation, its cultural policies, and explores the state of the contemporary performing arts.

This publication is available for free download in both English and French and is part of our series of country mappings produced in connection with our Satellite and Plenary meetings.
