Culture is the force which brings Europeans Together
The European Commission’s has just released a special Eurobarometer on Europeans´attitudes towards culture.
It brings a very welcomed assurance of the value of culture for us who work in the sector and goes against the enforced renewed tendency for instrumentalisation of culture, in the name of competitiveness and security.
87% of respondents agree culture and cultural exchange should have a very important place in the EU and 88% of Europeans say that artistic freedom matters to them .
Culture is the NUMBER ONE factor which fosters a sense of community and scores higher in community building than other sectors and factors, such as sport, healthcare, education, science and technology and rule of law.
We encourage IETM members to take a closer look at the results. The report includes country specific evidence from all 27 EU countries which can support advocacy for the performing arts on a local and national level. This barometer resource might be valuable for IETM members outside of the EU who are engaged in advocacy within their local communities.
