Résidences d'artistes

.

We aim to start a conversation between the participants about how they see the best possible structure for residencies as artistic production method in the future. Thus, this workshop will be a facilitated talk where input from all participants is needed.
The background for this Workshop: Bora Bora undertook a research on best practices in artistic residencies before applying the Danish Arts Council to become a residency centre. Soon we realized that there was a lot of different ways to structure and organize residency centres. As there seemed to be a lot of different problems they were trying to solve. As Rui Horta from O Ecpaco do Tempo pin pointed: "this is a reaction to an artistic need." Therefore, we thought rather than trying to tell about the best practices that we discovered we’d like to start the discussion on how can we use residency programmes to create a more sustainable future for the production of art.

Here in Aarhus two institutions has recently set up residency programmes … both programmes have been created as reaction to artistic needs, both within the dance field, so even trying to address the same needs different models can be thought up. But how can we become even better in supporting the production of art, and is the residency structure actually the best reaction to the reality for the artist?
