How Did I Die (Comment je suis mort) - Davy Pieters / Frascati ProductiesFrascati Theater
In How Did I Die, time cannot be trusted: neither the period from the discovery of the body to a possible conclusion, nor the possible final hours of the deceased. Nothing is certain. Time and truth are manipulated, conspiracy theories revised. The truth is a complex puzzle in which our fantasies can be gruesomely real or unreal. Just one murder has taken place, but there are countless paths that could have led to it. Does the reconstruction bring us closer to the truth, or does it push us further away? How Did I Die is a realistically fictional, cinematic, physical production. Particularly suitable for those who love a good thriller. Genre: Physical theatre You can purchase your tickets here. Discipline : Théâtre physique Vous pouvez acheter vos billets ici. Équipe |

The Kindly Ones (Les Bienveillantes) - Toneelhuis & Toneelgroep AmsterdamStadsschouwburg Amsterdam - Rabozaal
The Kindly Ones enter a confrontation with the darkest side of human behaviour: the Nazi ideology and the destruction of the Jews. How was this able to happen in the middle of Europe? What political, ideological, psychological and social changes caused the origin of this violence and let it happen? The unsteady political basis of Europe and the emergence of far-right and xenophobic parties give this project an exceptional urgency. At its appearance in 2006, the weighty novel by Jonathan Littell about the persecution of Jews during the Second World War was praised and criticized at the same time. Genre: Theatre You can purchase your tickets here. Blaas - Boukje Schweigman&Pllek
An empty space. At the back of the great hall, across a gleaming white floor, lies something that gently rises into the air and falls again softly. It looks like it's breathing, growing, becoming alive. Can it see us, like we can see it? Can it hear us? Does it want to play with us? Or is it trying to get us out of here? Blaas is a journey exploring boundaries and space, passing through inside and out, light and dark; playful and threatening, Blaas is a magical trip, an extraordinary ballet of almost abstract configurations. Genre: Physical theatre You can purchase your tickets here. Crew Un espace vide. The Dog Days Are Over (La canicule est finie) - Jan MartensDe Brakke Grond
Ask someone to jump and you’ll see their true face, said the American photographer Philippe Halsman. What is the true face of dance in these uncertain times? What would we like to show, what would we like to see? The Dog Days Are Over shows eight dancers that give in to one physical act: the jump. A repetitive exhaustion, that will prove the dancers to be nothing more than performers, at the service of… yes, what exactly? A critical performance about the thin line between art and tricks. Genre: Dance You can purchase your tickets here. Crew Press quotes “Dog Days dismantles the mechanisms of theatre and the desire for entertainment, to re-claim the stage as a place of encounter between human and human.” De Standaard “A literally breath-taking dance that makes the spectator an embarrassed voyeur, witness of so much willingly suffering. Yet at the same time all that jumping makes up a clear statement about the raging chaos with which we rush through a more and more superficial life.” knack.be “Jan Martens conjures a mesmerizing choreography of nothing but jump strength and geometry.” Dans The Dog Days Are Over (La canicule est finie), 8 danseurs s’abandonnent à un seul acte physique : sauter.

One of the best and most central locations for a late night meeting point is the Compagnietheater. It is located near the theatres in de Nes, Dam Square, trams and metros; and walking distance from central station and the famous Red Light district. And, most importantly, they have their own Compagnie Blond beer! The brewers of Walhalla have brewed a hoppy blond beer especially for the Compagnietheater. Alternatively, select one of their nice wines or organic fruit juices. And of course, a late night meeting point wouldn’t be complete without DJ Captain Fisherman’s Pants!

Although good cultural governance is tailor made in each country, some basic principles are essential. The essence of Good Cultural Governance is explained by Dr. Giep Hagoort, with some juicy examples of good and bad governance. He will also be discussing what will constitute a suitable governance model for the theatre sector with its tension between artistic and management dimensions? |

The performative playfulness of storytellingStadsschouwburg Amsterdam - Pleinfoyer
Video games are commonly considered a new form of art. But what can theatre and computer gaming learn from each other? Both fields find their origins in the basic human need to play. Theatre has evolved into an art form where the actors are in charge, whereas in games the audience or participant play the central part. As the quality of games continues to develop, in both design and storytelling, the performing arts are using more and more digital tools that involve the audience as a player. This session is an introduction on the connection between the two fields, and will examine how both reflect human behaviour and are in constant search for the performative quality of playfulness. |

Nowadays - whether we acknowledge it or not - there is little chance to succeed without a vibrant internet presence. Social media strategy, blog, appealing website - but isn't all this hugely expensive and time-consuming? |

Video games are commonly considered a new form of art. But what can theatre and computer gaming learn from each other? Both fields find their origins in the basic human need to play. IETM is pleased to pilot a new training course supported by the British Council at the Amsterdam plenary. The pilot will be led by British trainers and experienced experts currently practicing as producers both in the UK and internationally. We hope that the outcomes of this pilot will encourage other international arts agencies to come on board in future to help develop the training courses in an ongoing pan-European and global context. Who is it for? What will it do?

Ethical responses and moral behaviour in the ArtsStadsschouwburg Amsterdam - Nieuwe foyer
If not all, at least many artists claim to represent the conscience of society. But to what extent are we able and willing to take a stand when the options to develop or continue careers in the arts are being challenged by doing so? What if ethical behaviour becomes a costly luxury? In this session we will discuss the very delicate balance between losing your audience and accepting support from controversial regimes or sponsors that violate our values. Should we stay away from politics? Should we boycott controversial regimes and funders? Should we ban the artists and organisations dealing with them? And what is the price - even if it seems the right thing to do - of adopting the moral high-ground? |

Generation 2 Generation: comment surfent-ils ?Stadsschouwburg Amsterdam - Bovenkamer
Surfing through virtual spaces has become a common habit for most of us. Technology is just an amplifier of abilities, especially for Generation Y; born between 1981 and 2000. Technology helps us do more – and faster. Generation Y grew up immersing itself in role playing computer games or learning to tango via YouTube. It organises its social life via Snapchat or Instagram. For Generation Y, the mantra goes: video ergo sum. But who is in charge, medium or human? Is there a green line between the virtual and physical realities, or is this just old fashioned 'digital dualism'? And what is the place of liveness – the theatre – in this new reality? |

Keynote speech: Mixed Reality and the Theatre of the FutureStadsschouwburg Amsterdam - Rabozaal
Technological developments have an increasing impact on our daily lives and forms of cultural expression. More and more we exist in a mix of real and virtual environments in which we communicate and share experiences. Most devices we use are connected to the Internet. Public and private space start to blend and we manifest ourselves online as self-created fictional characters. Joris Weijdom is a researcher, designer and lecturer on the subject of interactive mixed reality experiences and leader of the research group Performativity and Media at the Research Centre Performative Processes at the HKU University of the Arts Utrecht. His core focus is interfacing people, tools and methodology in practice-led co-creative research processes. Next to his design and research activities he teaches on several BA and MA courses and gives both lectures and workshops in the Netherlands and abroad.

In the midst of budget squeeze and increasing pressure to perform - more and better, how can we assure our arts practices are ethically responsible and sustainable? The United We Stand proposal towards a Fair Practice Label in the Arts is an attempt to respond and to call for solidarity within the sector. This session aims to gather artists, curators, production teams, institutions, commissionaires, funding bodies, policy makers, etc., around working tables to discuss “best practices” taken from different disciplines in the arts field and to investigate how common actions can lead to effective changes. How can we preserve the diversity of the arts and guarantee fair relationships in our sector? How do we take care of the flex workers in the sector? How do we guarantee the remuneration and the accrual of social rights for all artists and art workers? How do organizations (small and large) face up to the growing demand for co-responsibility and solidarity with the more vulnerable players? How do we guarantee a fair distribution of resources and the access to (cultural) infrastructure? How can we on the long term assure a fair distribution of revenues in the sector? What kind of agreements would underlie this? How would they be implemented and fulfilled? What role could unions and lobby organisations play? And last but not least: what is fair when the available means are not sufficient?

Fortress EuropeStadsschouwburg Amsterdam - Gijsbrechtbordes
At this Fortress Europe session, we aim to make a concrete list of recommendations for action to strengthen and deepen the involvement of arts organisations in relation to the issues of refugees in Europe and beyond. The arrival and presence of refugees in Europe remains a critical issue. The policies of national and supranational governmental organizations are by and large ineffective and often hostile. Self-organizing grass-root initiatives of citizens in many different European cities and across countries have endeavoured to compensate for what the political ruling class is failing to do: to show solidarity and accommodate the inclusion of refugees in European societies. Arts organisations (an important sector of civil society) play an essential role in this regard.

Welcome to the ADHD world of psychotic poetry, banal humour and the motto of our time: I say what I think, therefore I am. Dynamic, obstinate and raw: these labels perfectly capture the productions of Club Guy & Roni. For Naked Lunch, choreographers Guy Weizman and Roni Haver sought inspiration in the masterwork of the same name by the American writer William Burroughs. The book's main character is a drug addict who takes a hallucinating trip through a nightmarish landscape. Club Guy & Roni also arrive at a place that lies somewhere between delusion and reality, where dreams become reality and hope blossoms, but where your worst fears also appear. Genre: Dance You can purchase your tickets here.
