IETM Multi-location in Buzău (online)

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the local Plenary meeting in Buzău, Romania, will be held entirely online and will be hosted by our member Teatrul "George Ciprian" Buzău with the participation of our member Centrul Replika and the Creative Europe Desk Romania. Please find below the introduction by the local hosts, as well as the online local programme they prepared.

Introduction by the local hosts

The Romanian programme will investigate how an expanded understanding of “presence” in the theatre aligns with the posthumanist turn in our society. Whether we speak of telepresence, non-human presence or the inclusion of marginalised humans, theatre can benefit from the reevaluation of norms that has accelerated as a result of the pandemic. While a posthumanist way of thinking had already permeated  experimental artistic practices long before the pandemic, it has come to prominence due to our shared vulnerability in front of COVID-19.

We therefore invite any interested participant to join our online programme and contribute to the discussion.

Note that one of the sessions in the programme below require an additional external registration.

Creative Europe project presentations
This online session is dedicated to the launch of two Creative Europe projects.

“Tele-Encounters: Beyond the Human” (Teatrul "George Ciprian" Buzău - RO, UCAM - ES, and Industria Scenica - IT) will explore the impact of the Internet, robots, and AI on human relationships, as well as the meaningful integration of these technologies in the arts.

Thematically, we will look at the emergence of social robots as companions for the elderly in relation to migration and loneliness. Our project seeks to extend the notion of what it means to be human and to understand how theatre practice can change as a result. The project will be framed by researcher Constantin Vică's presentation, "Roboethics for Posthumans".

“Festival of Love” (RO partner: Centrul Replika) is an interdisciplinary project involving activities within the fields of music, theatre and dance, linked by the theme of “love”. The music-centred activities will explore a selection of  songs and musical pieces about love in Polish traditions (e.g. Midsummer Night). The theatre activities will focus on Romanian amorous legends, dramas and folk stories. The choreographic performance will explore the Spanish understanding of love – solidarity and unity symbolized in the Sardana dance.

As part of the session, Bianca Floarea from the Romanian Creative Europe Desk will give a presentation on the future of the programme.

The event will be held in English on Zoom and will be open to members and non-members alike upon registration. It will also be live-streamed on Facebook.
