The "George Ciprian" Theatre in Buzău is one of the few public theatres in Romania working on a project-to-project basis and the first of its kind founded in the country. We produce mainstream as well as cutting-edge theatre work, the latter exploring the integration of digital technologies in art.
"Buzău Loves Theatre" (“Buzău Iubește Teatru”) is our annual summer theatre festival, preparing for its 17th edition in 2020. An intense 7-day event, hosting theatre productions from both the public and private sectors in Romania, as well as art exhibitions, book launches, and colloquia. "Young Theatre Week" festival (“Săptămâna Teatrului Tânăr”) will reach its 8th edition in 2020. It consists of 7 days of theatre dedicated to productions by young artists from the independent sector and from prestigious theatre universities in Romania.
The theatre has strong connections with local stakeholders in education and culture and with the most important theatre universities in Romania.
We are committed to an international perspective on culture and to European cooperation projects. The "Tele-Encounters" experimental theatre and film project, co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union, was our first experience as project leaders. Engaging in meaningful exchanges with other professionals and organisations in the cultural and creative sectors in Europe and beyond is one of our goals.
