IETM Bucharest - need your input
As you may know, the current political situation in Romania has a big impact on the IETM meeting. The IETM secretariat and its partners in Romania dedicate all their energy to make the meeting happen and be a good one. However, more than ever, we need the members to take ownership on the meeting.
The programme of IETM Bucharest is now finalised and we are looking for speakers and moderators to bring the sessions to live. Do you have or know someone who has a special expertise in one of the topics we will tackle? Take a look at the sessions and let us know by replying to this post!
You can also feel free to share any articles, videos, publications, links, etc. that you think may be useful for shaping the content of the sessions.
As artistic adviser of a regional agency of performing arts (spectacle vivant en Bretagne) that support financially the touring of performances in France and internationnaly, I could contribute to a working session on the value of arts. The way our governance, and criterias of distribution of public money adresses these questions. More over I was present at the sattelite meeting in Paris on Valuing the Arts.
I can contribute to the working session on Let’s act now: on gender as a political issue. I am from an arts management and audience development background and also have an MSc in Gender and International Relations; my work explores where all of these topics connect. I have presented at other conferences about Gender (see attached link on Gender and contemporary dance) and am a specialist in this area. I use a gender lens for all my work, so can give a holistic perspective as my interest is in how the arts makes an impact on social/political/environmental change. The attached video I submitted to the BBC recently. I have been selected from 1000s of women to participate in the BBC Womens' Academy in London at the end of March to work with the media. It gives a quick snapshot of me and my work very broadly. I look forward to working with you.
Hello, I'm Mykola Homanyuk from Ukraine. I'm happy I will take part at ITM meeting in Romania. I can offer to All the article about Ukrainian experience of conducting the public hearing in theatrical format. Link is below.
I would like to suggest some names of experts for the session "The Art of Curating":
- Guillermo Arazo, director of programming and communication of Las Naves, Valencia, https://www.linkedin.com/in/guillermoarazo/
- Mateo Feijoo, new director of Las Naves del Matadero, Madrid, http://blog.mataderomadrid.org/conoce-el-proyecto-de-mateo-feijo-para-n…
- Natalia Menéndez, director of International Festival of Classical Theatre of Almagro, Ciudad Real, https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natalia_Men%C3%A9ndez
All of them do an incredible and innovative curating work. Their techniques are fresh, effective and enhances the importance of the creators and their creations.
For 'Still want to be an artist?' I would recommend someone from the team of Econcult. They are experts in arts and economy and they have several publications regarding how the status of the artists should improve and be: http://www.econcult.eu/es/publicaciones/
I would like to introduce you the Association 'Clásicas y Modernas' from Spain. The women involved in this collective are professionals from Art and Culture that have research about women sectoral situation in Spain and have built tools and implement actions to achieve equality. I think a representative of the Association could give the session ' Let’s act now: on gender as a political issue' good contents and tools.
I can contribute to the session on gender and politics if you need any additional input?
My company, Irregular Arts has developed a specialism in feminist work - through participation, interaction, dialogue, comedy, absurdity and performance - and we are focussing more and more on how our work is activist as well as feminist. My own practice as a performing artist explores gender and identity. I am currently developing work in partnership with a local grassroots feminist political group, and considering how the form of performance (including circus) can provide new models for exploring how to do politics better.
I can contribute to the session on the Art of Curation
Also What we say when you are not there and gender as a political issue. Where ever it would most suit you.
I can contribute to the saving Europe session. As a US American by birth and a European by choice, I can share some examples (my own and some I know of) of arts engaging in the fight against right wing extremity from these two perspectives.
Thank you all for your proposals. I will discuss it with our partners in Romania and the already confirmed speakers and moderators, and see how can keep a good balance in the contributions. In any case, there will always be room to express yourself in IETM.
Hi, my name is Anita Clark and I work as the Director of The Work Room in Glasgow, Scotland. I would be very interested in contributing to the 'How to save Europe' working session. This is a very pertinent issue for us in Scotland!
I am also happy to be involved in moderating any session (on 21 and 22) if that would be helpful.
Hello. I co-direct Bristol Biennial, an artist-led festival, with two others. Since the experience of delivering our last festival in September 2016, we have been thinking, writing and speaking about our experiences of burnout, mental and physical depletion and institutionalised exhaustion; and discussing strategies of resilience / other ways of organising. We (all three or one of us) would be happy to contribute to the 'Still want to be an artist?' event, if interested. I've linked to a short (pecha-kucha) presentation I gave on this subject in December, connecting gender, immaterial labour and artist-led practice.
