Exploring Eco-Creativity: rethinking performing arts practices for a climate changed future
This workshop series hosted by Dr Tanja Beer has explored the role of eco-creativity as integral to rethinking performing arts practices for a climate changed future.
Eco-creativity is an emerging concept that encourages practitioners to respond to the climate crisis imaginatively and through artistic innovation. It reflects broader sustainability and climate justice approaches, promoting a sense of ‘thrive-ability’ to harness the communicative and communal aspects of cultural production. Eco-creativity is a necessary counter to the limited eco-efficient lens that has dominated conversations around sustainability over the last century. By bringing eco-creativity into climate conversations, we move beyond merely quantitative and ‘tick-box’ measures to reimagine alternative, thriving futures in the performing arts.
The workshops have applied the 3Cs matrix of eco-creativity – co-creation, celebration and circulation – in performance making, policy and education. Participants have been guided through the 3Cs to re-conceptualise their emerging, current or future projects, practices or processes.
The workshops were limited to 30 participants, and were open to all IETM members producers, performance makers, cultural workers, educators, artists who wanted to incorporate eco-creativity methodology into their practice. The workshops took place on:
- Friday 7 November at 9:30 - 11:30 CET (calculate your time zone)
- Friday 14 November at 10:00 - 11:30 CET (calculate your time zone)
- Friday 21 November at 10:00 - 11:30 CET (calculate your time zone)
Dr Tanja Beer has also hosted two, one hour long wrap up sessions on Friday 28 November at 11:00-12:00 CET and on Friday 5 December at 20:00-21:00 CET, summing the key takeaways from the workshops with participants and people who weren’t able to take part to the sessions.
