Introduction by the local hosts

The introduction by the local hosts is only available in French.

This local meeting in Montreal (Quebec, Canada) will be held both online and in person. All IETM members, as well as non-members, are invited to participate in the event free of charge. However, registration is compulsory. The Montreal programme will be organised around IETM's central theme "What matters now?".

In a world where human contact is difficult and international cooperation is undermined, reconnecting is essential, both locally and internationally. But how?

The illusion of hyper(de)connection, created by social networks and the abundance of information constantly flowing at our fingertips, makes conversation even more difficult and falsely allows us to keep in touch with each other.

It seems essential to renew the dialogue and find ourselves in the flesh (yes yes!). It seems urgent that the place of art and its craftspeople be rightly perceived as the driving force behind a revived human contact.

We therefore invite all interested participants to join our programme online and in person, to contribute to the discussion and reopen the dialogue.

So, what matters now?

We invite you to get together, exchange and reconnect, simply over a beer, a coffee or a walk.

Walk from Place des Festivals to the Kondiaronk Belvedere*
This walk is meant to be an echo with what we could do in March-April to keep the only imaginable way of meeting: walking. Walking to find each other, to find out about each other, to break isolation. We call on the cultural community to join us for a walk to the heights of the city, to the horizon.

The meeting point will be the Place des Festivals, wishing to echo the call for mobilisation launched in the cultural milieu last June by Martin Faucher. It will head towards the Kondiaronk Belvedere on Mount Royal.

Picnic and artistic interventions at Belvédère Kondiaronk*
At the end of the walk is the Kondiaronk belvedere located at the junction of the English and French speaking communities, a place to observe the horizon over the downtown towers and beyond the Monteregian Mountains.

There is a time like this when the need to step back is essential to imagine beyond, to put different points of view into perspective, to finally take the time to exchange, to see each other again. Bring your blanket, your drink and your picnic to this aperitif, let's share a moment to discuss and take the time to see each other again somewhere other than on screen. Coffee, food and drink also available at the Café des Amis de la Montagne.

Performances:
Bercer Le Temps (Performative installation, public art)
Elena Stoodley (singer-songwriter) & Sovann Prom Tep (choreographer, performer, dancer)

Meeting point: Belvédère Kondiaronk

* In case of rain, the on-site programme of Thursday 1 October will be moved to October 3rd, could be modified or cancelled due to weather conditions. At all times, public health rules related to the COVID-19 pandemic will be respected and could lead to the cancellation of the event.
