"Themes" is a stream of content generated or created by both IETM staff and our members. In focus are the subjects we consider essential in the contemporary performing arts today: the relationship with the audience, EU cultural policies, diversity & inclusion, sustainability of the sector, the value of the arts in society, and the paradigms, challenges and aspirations faced by the sector in different parts of the globe.

This briefing paper explores cultural work with refugees in Europe, analysing the current funding programmes of the European Union. The paper particularly focuses on the Erasmus+, Creative Europe and Europe for Citizens programmes. The findings are complemented by case studies and feedback from EU-funded projects under each programme. The paper provides recommendations for the future EU programme generation.

Fair practice refers to a better labour market position for artists and fair business practices on the part of commissioning clients. The Dutch Fair Practice Code was drawn up jointly by makers, employers, trade unions, professional groups and other partners in the creative and cultural sectors, following a report by the Netherlands’ Council for Culture and Social and Economic Council. The draft version of the Code is now available also in English.
