What does IETM’s vision for an ‘ideal’ green arts sector look like? How can we create a joint green cultural policy to reach a holistic viewpoint of the essential intersectionality between fairness, climate justice and equality?

The IETM Focus Luxembourg Meeting 2023, organised in partnership with Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg, gathered 122 performing arts professionals coming from 21 different countries. Entitled Lost in Transition?, the meeting addressed the topic of the climate crisis and the role of the performing arts sector in advancing the world’s transition to a greener and more just world. 

The report captures the essence of our discussions and outlines the conclusions reached during the various sessions, which were held in six working groups over two days and were facilitated by seven performing arts professionals. 

The report also gives a first glance into IETM´s two fold green vision: that of a green art sector and that of a green cultural policy. 

Recognising from the offset that there is no one common green transition we can all embark on, there is no right way forward - nor a unified understanding and commitment. The meeting hosted an honest and open dialogue about all possible reasons why we may find ourselves ‘lost’ and how - from our extremely diverse local, professional and personal contexts - we can find both collective and individual pathways towards a more sustainable world.
