IETM and Toplocentrala are pleased to present the mapping of the independent performing arts in Bulgaria, published in connection to the IETM 2024 Plenary meeting held in Sofia.

This publication offers a snapshot of the current Bulgarian performing arts landscape, with clear emphasis on the independent scene.  We aim to highlight challenges and achievements, celebrate successes and provide insights into the social, economic and political contexts that continue to shape the ecosystem of the independent performing arts scene in Bulgaria. 

We hope that the readers will find a comprehensive picture of a vibrant and resilient independent performing arts scene, where passionate professionals continue to engage audiences against all odds and develop organisational models and practices that effectively respond to their evolving context.  

The publication includes a list of the active performing arts organisations in Bulgaria, along with a  short description of their activities and profiles.This extensive database will hopefully enable international audience and professionals to start and continue engaging with the Bulgarian performing arts scene.
