The Performing Arts in (North of) England
This mapping, commissioned specially for IETM Plenary Meeting in Hull, UK, offers an in-depth overview of the performing arts scene in the North of England, where possible focusing on inclusive practices. The publication explores the Northern culture and examines some of the geographical, historical and economic forces that helped shape Northern England. It also takes you on a journey through the venues, the festivals and the companies that live, work and play in the region, and looks at key organisations, artists and themes.

This document provides a thorough overview of the sector. However, the section on rural touring is incomplete and looks like an afterthought . It is not reflective of current practise in the North of England. We have 6 touring networks covering 7 counties working with over 500 communities. 5 of these networks are part of Arts Council England's national portfolio and have been developing work in partnership with rural communities and professional touring companies for over 20 years. More information on the sector can be found at www.ruraltouring.org
I am more than happy to chat to the author and provide an updated overview for the second version!

Dear Sue
Many thanks for your comments. I agree the section on rural touring is a short paragraph. There was a link to the Rural Touring website which appears to be missing in the final document. I attended the NRTF at Worcester last year and know how sophisticated the circuit has become. So apologies. No excuses! All best wishes, Tim
