Local Journeys for Change: Training and grant for local action

2022 - 2023

Local Journeys for Change: Go Green in 2023

What is it all about?

Local Journeys for Change (LJC) is a project development programme, coupled with peer-to-peer learning, training and financial support provided by IETM. The programme began in 2022, where 24 IETM members worked on projects which take a look at inclusive practices. In 2023, the focus of LJC is on green transitioning in the performing arts.

IETM members can apply to join LJC with the basis of a project idea. Each selected project receives 1.250€ in support from IETM´s Creative Europe Network grant, and a training programme customised to the needs of the selected projects. It is expected that up to 25 projects will be selected in 2023. Training is an essential part of the program. During the year, the selected group will share and exchange ideas, solutions, challenges and receive external coaching and training on project development and transitional leadership, aimed to empower members to bring positive change to their local and professional contexts, as well as enriching the IETM community with innovative practices and experiences.

IETM encourages members to take action towards green transitioning via LJC projects. During the whole of 2023, IETM will focus on environmental practices and green transitions via its events, publications and research.

Member projects can include:

  • Developing strategies for organisations
  • Action plans
  • Awareness-raising events
  • Workshops for local artists
  • Other professionals
  • Communities and/or institutions,
  • Media and advocacy campaigns,
  • Developing new models for contracts,
  • Codes of conduct or collaborations, and many more.

Projects can also include testing more sustainable ways of collaborating across borders, as well as testing alternative ways to create, produce and present performing arts works which are locally rooted with the intention of reaching deeper engagement with local communities.

These are just a few ideas on what the focus of projects can be -  it is up to each applicant to define its own current motivation of green transitioning.

Applicants are encouraged to read the work on sustainability produced by IETM and its partner networks, namely:

This researches can be used as inspiration for projects and its content. LJC project ideas can be new ideas in its initial development phase or be part of an ongoing project.

Deadline to apply: 20 December at 17:00 CET.

What is on offer?

Selected applicants will receive a small grant of 1.250€ to cover the costs of their LJC activities.  The grant will be paid to the participants upon completion of the project and submission of the final report.

Alongside the grant, LJC’ers will take part in free training taking place throughout 2023. The detailed timeline for these activities will be announced in the beginning of 2023. Most of these sessions will happen on Zoom, starting in spring 2023, while live sessions will be held during the IETM Aarhus Plenary Meeting 2023 from 12-15 June 2023, as well as at the IETM Focus meeting in November 2023. Coaching for the projects will be available in the fall of 2023.

Participants will be expected to participate in these sessions, share their experiences during IETM meetings and contribute towards a final report on LJC in 2023.

Selected projects will be announced in February 2023, and are expected to start in the spring of 2023 and run until 30 November 2023.

Who can apply?

Any IETM member, based anywhere in the world, who are not funding bodies for other organisations, can apply to take part in the LJC.

How will the evaluation be made?

Applicants are requested to describe the LJC project they want to work on and answer three additional questions:

  • What urgency drives you to implement this project?
  • How will your project innovate your current practices and contribute to the green transition?
  • What sort of coaching or training support would you need to be successful in your journey?

A Selection Committee will comprise of two IETM members appointed by the IETM Board of Directors as well as a project coordinator. Main criteria looked at will be relevance of the idea for the local context, quality of the project and its innovation potential. The Selection Committee will make sure to select a balanced group of applicants in regards to their geographic location, thematic scope of their project, gender, type of organisation and performing arts discipline.
