BACKGROUND
Green Space Dark Skies is commissioned by UNBOXED: Creativity in the UK, and led by Walk the Plank, one of the UK’s leading companies in the field of outdoor events and arts in public space, based in Salford and working internationally.
For Green Space Dark Skies, 20,000 people from all paths in life will become Lumenators. Together, we will make a journey into beautiful green spaces across the UK. Imagine hundreds of handheld lights making patterns on mountains, lakes and moorland across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland, all of which will be filmed and shared online. There will be no spectators and our participants will only find out the exact locations two weeks before the event.
20 events will take place across the UK, from April to September 2022. We will take the nation on a journey through our National Parks and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), to a climactic closing moment across the UK that will be broadcast to millions. These are places that anyone can visit, any time, for free. But we know not everybody feels welcome there. Walk the Plank is inviting people who don’t usually experience the countryside to take part and to share their stories – before, during and after.
