International Festival "Young Theater Days" invites you

Open Call / Selection of participants for creative workshops

On August 14-17, international festival "Young Theater Days" (JTD) will be held in Klaipėda. The festival gathers young creators of Lithuanian performing arts, and professionals from various fields with different experiences meet here. This is a rare opportunity for theater professionals to meet in the creative process, whose paths would not otherwise cross. Discover like-minded people, experience a variety of creative methods, make quick decisions and meet the audience directly – all of this is offered to JTD theater professionals for the 12th time.

Registration of participants is open until July 1.

Who can participate?

  • Only professional stage art creators and performers can participate in JTD's creative workshops.
  • Creators and performers of various spheres of stage art are welcome - actors, dancers, playwrights, scenographers, representatives of circus art, creators and performers of musical genres.
  • Preference is given to participants who can participate in the JTD program for all 4 days.
  • Developers who can communicate and listen to lectures in English.

Registration requires:

  • Brief description of professional activities
  • Motivational letter
  • Portrait photo

Festival environment and working conditions:

  • The creative workshop will take place in Klaipėda Culture Factory (Bangų st. 5A).
  • The final performances will be presented in the public spaces of the city of Klaipėda.
  • One-time JTD member fee is 50 eur.
  • JTD participants will be provided with meals during all workshops.
  • JTD participants themselves take care of accommodation.

The course of the festival:

  • After the selection of 36 JTD participants, 4 teams will be formed. Each of them will have its own selected playwright, scenographer and director.
  • August 14 and 15 will be devoted to creative workshops and lectures with JTD invited guests.
  • On August 16 and 17, teams will have to create a performance and present it in a predetermined city space.
  • After the performances, there will be a discussion, it will be moderated by theater critic and culture commentator Vaidas Jauniškis.
  • The closing concert will be held to bid farewell to the festival.

Leaders and presenters of creative workshops:

  • Olga Lapina is a director and teacher whose work has been awarded three "Golden Crosses of the Stage". She creates for both children and adults, looking for ever new ways to talk to audiences of different ages. During the JTD workshop, O. Lapina will share her experience on the strategies and techniques of creating immersive theater.
  • Tinka Werner is a theater practitioner and the founder of the applied theater school "Baltic Applied Theatre School". She will invite you to delve deeper into biographical theater and explore how personal stories can turn into evocative stories on stage, as well as sharing experiences about the creation of staged performances.
  • Linas Jurkštas - playwright and director, creator of street art. His topics range from mass management to individual interaction. During his lecture, the principles, genres and skills of street theater, and the specifics of communicating with the audience will be reviewed.

The following directors will work with JTD participant teams:

  • Paulius Markevičius - theater and film actor, director, artistic director of the "Art and Science Laboratory", founder of the "Tolyn gilyn" theater. P. Markevičius is looking for new inspirations from science in his work. He creates installations, experiential performances in non-traditional spaces.
  • Jonas Kuprevičius - theatre director, graduated in 2023 from G. Varnas' directing course. Since graduating, he has been directing plays in various Lithuanian theatres, including the State Youth Theatre, Panevėžys Juozas Miltinis Drama Theatre and Kaunas City Chamber Theatre.
  • Paulius Tamolė - actor, director, dancer. Participant of the "Creative Partnership" project program. P. Tamolė's performances can be seen at the Lithuanian National Drama Theater, Klaipėda Drama Theater, Vilnius Theater "LĖLĖ". His directorial gaze is reminiscent of collective childhood games in the yard, where shared imagination plays an important role.
  • Artiomas Rybakovas - actor, director, translator, head of the improvisation camp "Imu ir veikiu", student of O. Korshunov. He made his debut with performances based on I. Vyrypayev's plays "Wasps" and "Iranian Conference". The director says that he often faces challenges and fears in the creative process, but he considers the desire to create something beautiful and meaningful to be his main value.
