Corriente Alterna Performing Arts Platform To Celebrate Local, National, And International Contemporary Mexican, Latinx, And Chicanx Artists, By Launching 1st Live Edition In Salt Lake City.
IETM Global Connector 2024 Stephanie García, codirector of PROArtes México and in partnership with loveDANCEmore (a Salt Lake City presenter), is excited to bring Corriente Alterna (Alternative Current), an international performing arts platform celebrating contemporary multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary Mexican, Chicanx, and Latinx dance, theater, and performance art makers from Mexico and the United States. The program comprises eleven performances by artists from Utah, Texas, and Mexico. Corriente Alterna is committed to advancing the visibility of innovative artists from Mexico and Mexican and Latin American descendants.
A Poc A Poc dance company directed by choreographer Jaime Camarena and Porta Teatro, a theatre company directed by playwright, director, and actor Itzhel Razo will travel from Mexico City to present their productions, Primer Amor (A Poc A Poc) and Wilma (Porta Teatro). Among other USA artists, the platform will present Chac Mool by Jorge Rojas (Utah), and Lengua by José Villalobos (Texas), both visual and performance art practitioners.
Corriente Alterna is possible thanks to the support of Creative West, the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, the Salt Lake City Arts Council, Springville Museum of Art, RDT Link Series program, and Mexico's Cultural Creation and Projects Support System by Mexico’s Culture Ministry.
