C.IN.E. Sineu launches a crowdfunding campaign on its fifth anniversary
Funds obtained will be used to set up a resting area for the companies and improve the centre’s facilities.
The C.IN.E. asks for support in order to continue boosting creation in the performing arts sector.
In 2021 the C.IN.E., a ground-breaking creation centre in the Balearic Islands, is celebrating its fifth anniversary.
The C.IN.E., the Centre for Performing Arts Research in Sineu, opened its doors 5 years ago, in order to boost creation in performing arts. The C.IN.E., an impressive building erected during the Second Republic (1931-36), and which hosted the town cinema for more than 50 years, was in a dreadful stage when the performing arts company Res de Res i En Blanc, created by Biel Jordà and Marta Barceló, purchased it in 2008 with the idea of turning it into a creation centre.
In their own words, "after several years, three periods of renovation and countless anecdotes, our commitment remains unwavering, as is the will to improve year after year the facilities and services offered to the artists, and contribute to disseminating theatre and building bridges between creators and our local community".
The crowdfunding campaign
The funds obtained through this campaign, organized via the Goteo.org platform, will be used to improve the C.IN.E.’s facilities and create a resting area for the companies carrying out residencies at our creation centre. It is the former projectionist's booth, on the building's second floor. "A space which requires full renovation in order to become a resting area and thus add an essential space for resident companies", they state.
For the last 13 years, the owners have renovated this historical building with both their own funds and European funding. “We have rebuilt the roof, the office, the halls and the basement. We currently have two halls, an office and toilets. However, there is a space which we haven't been able to renovate yet and which could be turned into a resting area for resident companies and artists”, they declare.
About C.IN.E.
The C.IN.E. Sineu opened in 2016 to fill an existing void in the Balearic Islands (Spain) and in its five years of existence it has become an essential creation centre. From its inauguration onward it has supported more than fifty companies (from the Balearic Islands, the rest of Spain and the rest of the world), it has organized specialized workshops, it has mediated between the artists and the local community and has organised the five editions of CICLOP, the visual theatre festival held in September in Sineu.
The C.IN.E has two halls. The most important one is the SALA GRAN (Main Hall), a multifunctional open space, 16 m deep and 13.5 m wide, reaching up to 10.5 m high. These features make it ideal for hosting large-format projects, circus and new dramaturgies.
