Irish EU Presidency proposes 30% cuts to Agora EU
According to a proposal sent to Member States last Friday 10 October, the Irish presidency of the Council of the EU is suggesting to cut the current EU budget plan 2028—2034 by 8%.
Culture is amongst the hardest hit. If agreed, the successor of Creative Europe, AgoraEU, will be cut by 30%: from € 8,6 billion proposed by the EU Commission last year, to € 6 billion. The proposal will be discussed at a meeting of the Member States on 15 — 16 October, with an agreement to be reached by the end of 2026.
IETM will be following this development closely and will soon share a campaign kit with its EU-based members, to oppose this proposal, which if adopted, would have devastating consequences for cross-board collaboration in the performing arts sector.
