Call for contributions - Help bring Varna’s new venue for the independent performing arts to life
After the IETM Sofia Plenary Meeting 2024, a group of 18 IETM members and international professionals from 16 countries participated in a post-meeting trip to Varna to explore the creation of a specialised venue for contemporary dance and performing arts in this culturally rich locale.
The group identified a marine harbour building located in the Port of Varna - Magazia 7 - as the most suitable space, and met with Varna's Mayor Mr. Blagomir Kotsev and Deputy Mayor for Culture Mr. Pavel Popov, who were enthusiastic about the prospect of a new arts centre in Varna and are determined to act fast in the planning and preparation ahead.
After this first important milestone, the Varna Dance Theater team is initiating the conceptualisation, project design and processes to transform Magazia 7 into a venue and regional centre for the independent performing arts.
Following the model of Toplocentrala in Sofia, they are calling on IETM members and beyond for their contributions to shape the future of Magazia 7 by sharing insights, advice and examples to build a cultural landmark that enriches the artistic landscape of Varna.
