From Where You Stand: Culture & Climate Leadership
Location: Cultural Centre Valve - Dance Studio 3
Address: Hallituskatu 7, 90100 Oulu, Finland | Venue Information | Event Map
This interactive workshop invites you to locate yourself within the communities and systems you exist in, mapping your position in relation to power, privilege and influence, and using that insight to shape your approach to climate leadership. Whatever shape your leadership takes - whether you hold a formal role or want to lead through your practice, networks or community - this session is for you.
Through guided exercises, presentation and discussion and real-world examples, we’ll explore how the climate crisis is also a cultural crisis, and what climate justice leadership can look like in practice. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of your own agency, frameworks for thinking about culture and climate as interconnected systems, and approaches for taking meaningful, justice-centered action.
This session draws on Julie’s Bicycle’s Creative Climate Changemakers programme, a global initiative running for almost ten years that equips artists and cultural professionals with the tools, networks and confidence to lead practical, justice‑centred climate action.
It is part of the IETM Green School, IETM's training programme for members on greening tools and sustainable practices. At the IETM Oulu Plenary Meeting, this session is open to all participants - both IETM members and non-members. Discover more about all IETM training opportunities here.
