OPEN CALL: SUBMERGE FESTIVAL 2026
SUBMERGE is a festival of exchange celebrating choreography and artistic practice, founded by LAKE Studios Berlin in 2016. The festival consists of professional workshops taught as precursors to performances. The workshops function as “re-creative” labs where artists guide participants in crafting their work. Artists share the creative processes, movement techniques, choreographic/improvisational methods and conceptual journeys that contributed to the creation of the work. All performances are open to the public.
The idea behind the SUBMERGE Festival — to dive into, examine and share the creative process behind a particular performance work — grew out of a need to foster more solidarity in the ways that artists exchange and experience each other’s work.
OPEN CALL 2026 for SUBMERGE v. 8 is open! We are looking for 2 – 4 works from Berlin & European based artists to supplement our Festival program. Please find detailed information below about the call (PDF), and the application form in PDF and WORD formats.
Details:
> 2-4 works to supplement our festival program
> Finished pieces- performance works from a diverse dance backgrounds
> We are not looking for children’s works from this open call (we’ve already programmed them)
> 20-60 min in length
> Presented as a double bill
> Must be willing to offer a 2 day workshop - the Choreographer’s Lab
> Availability to present work on: August 24th, September 7th, or September 14th
> Two to four works will be selected - one of which can be for European based artists and the others Berlin based

> LAKE Studios is barrier free
> Two-day 5hr/ day workshops: 500 euros for one facilitator, 800 for two facilitators
> Performance- 380 euros per artist
> Professional video & photos
> Child care during workshops and performances

> 8 hours of Studio time in July or August
> Travel costs for international artists
> Accommodation for traveling artists
