In-Depth Analysis: The State of Ukraine's Culture
proto produkciia is happy to share the Baseline Reports on the Ukrainian cultural sector (in English) and the Analytical Brief on the performing arts sector (in Ukrainian). These can be useful for discovering new insights, building strategies for work involving Ukraine, and providing strong background analyses.
Those papers are part of RES-POL project — Rapid Expert Support for Culture and Media Policies in Ukraine, which focuses on the following sectors: cultural heritage, arts and culture, creative industries, media, and ten critical issues of cultural development. The RES-POL team aims to consolidate the voice of the expert community in the process of developing media and cultural policy. The experts will also work on proposals for legislative changes.
In the RES-POL project, the arts and culture sector is studied by Alona Karava and Olia Diatel, co-founders of the organization Insha Osvita and proto produkciia, along with art historian Iryna Chuzhynova. To identify material issues in the sector, the experts conducted a series of in-depth interviews and surveys and worked with focus groups within the sector. All results were incorporated in two Baseline reports:
- Key Challenges to be solved by Culture and Arts Policy (English, 108 pages). Link to the file.
- The Role of Art in the Post War Recovery of Ukraine (English, 70 pages). Link to the file.
Baseline reports were created based on five Analytical Briefs by Subsectors and reports from the Focus Group. These documents are available in Ukrainian only. Among them – Analytical Brief:
- Key challenges to be solved in Performing Art sector (Ukrainian, 42 pages). Link to the file.
