Contribute to the programme of IETM Amsterdam
The programme for IETM Amsterdam is still in progress. IETM Meetings being your space of reflection and exchange, we would like to hear from you about some topics, and about the ones you may want to submit, and start the discussions online. Here are some topics you can share you approach on :
Transmedia storytelling & creative marketing
Let us know how you see new digital tools changing at once the performance and it's dissemination.
Sharing economy
Do you share the values of creative commons? How digital tools can lead to a new economy of the arts?
Digital public space
Opportunity or threat? How are linked the offline public space of the theatres and the connecting online sphere?
Do you have or know someone who has a special expertise in one of these themes? Please feel free to share any articles, videos, publications, links, etc. that you think may be useful for shaping the content of these working groups.
Hello from rather windy and cold Highlands.
I feel it is important to explore how digital solutions and innovation can support and invigorate international networks and the touring across and between them. Generally tours are dependent upon personal networks and contacts, our outdated websites that fail to be interacted within beyond their inception. Geographical boundaries can often be difficult to transend, and whilst many promoters present carefully and beautifully curated international programmes, it can be very difficult to see what work is coming from where.
What would happen if we had a central resource that allowed presenters promoters and creators to share information and knowledge?
That we used digital data to identify sustainable (both ecologically and financially) touring routes?
What if the same data could identify venues that matched your tech spec, type of production and target audiences?
The start of a solution, TOURBOOK, has been created in the remote Highlands of Scotland, and was introduced in 5 minutes at IETM Budapest. This was welcomed and received with much enthusiasm by many .
It feels important that the opportunities and knowledge is shared beyond the boundaries of Scotland (where the idea is receiving government and Creative Scotland support)... perhaps with digital being the focus of IETM Amsterdam we are presented with the perfect opportunity to interrogate, explore and imagine what Tourbook could do for the members, associates and partners within IETM?
Tourbook is an online community and showcasing platform for all those
involved in touring professional performing arts. It helps performers in dance, theatre, music, comedy and more to connect with promoters and venues.
It is a place to showcase work, discover new artists, find venues and
audiences you never knew existed and to make new connections with
industry professionals.
Tourbook provides an online community where artists and performers connect with promoters and venues to create viable touring itineraries and share knowledge and resources to make touring easier.
Performers can create showcases for their forthcoming shows, whilst promoters and venues can highlight the spaces, places and audiences they have to offer. Users can express interest to performers, agents or producers in booking a show, whilst, performers themselves can get in touch directly with venues who might be interested in hosting their work.
Hi from unexpectedly sunny Brussels.
Thank you for your comment.
I remember the presentation of your project in the Newsround session in Budapest. This is an interesting project, addressing a specific need of the field, not only bookers but also artists, producers and programmers, with socially and financially responsible solutions. It is a good example of the news possibilities of connection and shared knowledge that offer digital tools. Indeed, it could be an input to the session on sharing economy where will be presented other platforms, but none is dedicated to touring.
Are you up to take part to IETM Amsterdam?
Hi Sam, fantastic project! We at HowlRound are interested in the question of how various online projects for connecting "needs" to "resources" (of various kinds and purposes) can somehow collaborate and openly share data. We're currently in early development of the World Theatre Map which will be a user-generated directory of the world’s theatre community (makers, workers, companies, institutions) and a real-time media hub of its events, performances, conversations, ideas. Looking forward to connecting.
Hi and thanks for reaching out - that's really great.
I have passed on your details to the team, and we will be sure to take time to explore your map and get in touch shortly
It sounds brilliant.
Hi Victor - thanks for coming back to me - that is super.
We would love to come and present at IETM Amsterdam - if it was not me, it would be another member of the team. Would it be useful to take this forward via email? Samecclesworks at gmail dot com
Hi Victor,
I was wondering if somehow the IETM meeting will talk about the digital tools we use in our everyday life especially in an international network in order to organize our work :
- communication : email, skype, viber, whatsapp
- planning : online agenda, keynote, trolley
- social media : facebook, twitter, linkedin, instagram
Few subject could be interested :
- How do we work with Digital Technology ? How did we adapt our practice ? We indeed still need formal meeting instead of "online meeting".
- How social media via digital tools have an impact on the marketing of the performing art sector ? (exemple of Opera Garnier and la 3ème scène)
- Exploring new tools to organize tour, venue and team work.
Hi Olivia,
as you may know IETM Meetings are always somehow conceiving the bigger picture, so topics as digital public space, sharing economy or transmedia will be discussed from the perspective of the performing arts... or not.
Regarding the digital tools used in everyday life/work, we have decided to be very practical. We will propose two short workshop/training, one on livestream, to showcase, market and disseminate your performance online, the other one will on building and monitoring websites and social media profiles. On the later you already can find more information on the link below.
Hey Olivia - I hope all is well with you, it was so lovely to meet you in Budapest. I think your proposal is really interesting. I certainly use all those tools, and think it is important that we all understand which is the best to use in which circumstance.
I hope that Tourbook fills some of the gaps - especially when considering how to organise tours, venues and teams. It would be great to explore how it might work across networks in France, and if you think there is value in doing this together, lets follow this up.
Moreover, regarding the digital piece of art, It could be interesting to ask how artists using digital art will sustain their work when sofware and hardware change.
One artist I'm working for, Christoph Guillermet, is dealing with this issue.
We had an interesting talk with the artist residency : Le Château Ephémère (Carrières sous Poissy) near Paris if you would like to contact them.

How can the magic of live art compete with the always-on Internet? Ben Cameron offers a bold look forward to a world where live arts matter more than ever — to link humans together at a primal level of shared experience. Inspiring!
Dear Victor,
I'm just writing some hints on the theme. Some of your issues are very interested but complicated to develope here. I'm actually fascinated by the idea of "trasparency" of new digital tools.
