Who we are: Established in 1992 Prime Cut Productions is a company limited by guarantee with charity status. Prime Cut Productions is governed by a board of nine directors and currently has three full time and one part time members of staff. What we are: An Independent Theatre Producing Organisation based in Belfast, Prime Cut Productions is one of Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland’s leading theatre companies. Prime Cut Productions are committed to producing excellent contemporary theatre that is accessible and entertaining for as wide an audience as possible, forge artistic links locally and internationally and continue to nurture the development of theatre practice and artists in Northern Ireland. Prime Cut has produced over 40 highly acclaimed Northern Irish Premieres of the best of International Theatre as well showcasing the work of Northern Irish Theatre Artists across the Island of Ireland and beyond. Our work is consistently recognised through ongoing award nominations and wins. The company currently produces two to three full-scale productions per year, at least one of which tours throughout Ireland complemented by a programme of ancillary activities. In 2013 Prime Cut completed a four year international collaboration with East West Theatre, Sarajevo and Mladinsko Theatre, Ljubljana that culminated in a European Tour of an ambitious large-scale multi-disciplinary Theatre Production that featured a Community Engagement Programme of over 500 people from Northern Ireland, Bosnia and Slovenia. Of these over 200 came from Belfast. Recently our production of the Chilean Trilogy – three plays by Chilean authors, received widespread critical acclaim from reviewers across the island of Ireland and named by The Stage UK as one of its Top 10 UK 2014 Productions. In 2014 our Artistic Director Emma Jordan was awarded the Breakthrough Fund in Cultural Entrepreneurship by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation and the company was awarded a BBC Performing Arts Fellowship. In 2015 our Chair Chris Bailey won Board Member of the Year at the Arts & Business NI Awards and Prime Cut were awarded a Jerwood Weston Creative Bursary. Examples of critical reviews, audience and participant feedback can be supplied on demand. What we do: Prime Cut has three separate and distinct strands of work, each of which are given equal priority within the organization. CREATE: An Artistic Programme of two professional productions annually of the best of international drama featuring casts and creative teams of the highest quality. Since 1992 Prime Cut have produced Northern Irish Premieres from countries as diverse as France, Canada, Chile, South Africa, Russia and the USA as well as outstanding work from the UK and Ireland, to critical acclaim. INNOVATE: Our Annual Artistic Development Programme drives forward the development of Northern Irish professional theatre through the provision of the finest International Training Opportunities for Northern Irish Artists, the showcasing of new work, providing opportunities for emerging artists and the commissioning of new work by Northern Irish Playwrights. PARTICIPATE: Our Community Engagement Programme provides year-round opportunities for access to and participation in the arts for young people, older people, disadvantaged people and people from minority groupings including an Annual Special Outreach Showcase Project in partnership with a wide range of Community and Arts groups, pushing the boundaries of what Arts Outreach can achieve.
