The National Taichung Theater (NTT), set to open in 2016, is dedicated to the vision of creating a theatre for the extraordinary and awesome arts, and to let the perception and appreciation of art become an integral part of everyday life. Alongside sister venues in northern and southern Taiwan - the National Theater & Concert Hall in Taipei and the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts in Jaohsiung - under the umbrella of the National Performing Arts Center, the NTT will serve as the first national-level performing arts venue in central Taiwan, seeking to become the region's most professional venue in management, technical support, as well as programming.
Through presenting, producing, and house hiring, the NTT embraces the diversity of artistic programs, including music, dance, opera, drama, music theatre, and digital performing arts. Another one of its missions is to nurture young and promising talents. By hosting an annual arts festival, presenting regular educational programs, and providing presentation platforms, the NTT will help launch fearless artistic dreams and develop a network of local and international artist communities.
Designed by Pritzker winner Toyo Ito, the NTT contains three major performance spaces: the 2,014-seat Grand Theater, the 800-seat Playhouse Theater, and the 200-seat Black Box. The architecture, which is supported solely by curved walls with no pillars, exemplifies our endeavour: to engage and connect, to embrace the flow of ideas, and be unafraid to defy the norm. The structure, which also features a scenic roof garden, along with salon spaces, gift shops, cafés and restaurants, bring about a cohesive, immersive whole.
The NTT aspires to become one of the most awesome theaters in the world that serve and inspire artists, audience, and all in our neighbourhoods and communities.vies
