Location: Remisen, Godsbanen Interested participants
Address: Godsbanen, Skovgaardsgade 3, Indgang 3A, Aarhus | Event Map | Venue Accessibility This interactive session will be co-facilitated by IETM's PIC group and the AREA-network. The session will delve into the overall themes of the IETM Aarhus Plenary Meeting by focussing on two participative practises of artists working in rural areas. The group will then explore the presented material through a collaborative process, developing creative actions in response to themes that at times feel beyond our capacity. AREA-network supports arts in rural areas by creating exchanges of experiences, researching working methods and stimulating the advocacy on a local, regional, national and European level. AREA includes all disciplines. Members of AREA are artists, creators, organisers, policymakers and scientists. The Participatory and Immersive Creation group (PIC) aims to provide a space for IETM members to tackle central issues we have in creating, presenting and producing this genre of work, through open discussions, experience sharing, and creative exchanges. Artists working group — Can Artists Sustain Sustainable Art?Location: Rå Hal 1, Godsbanen Interested participants
Location: Rå Hal 1, Godsbanen Interested participants
Address: Godsbanen, Skovgaardsgade 3, Indgang 3A, Aarhus | Event Map | Venue Accessibility The Artists working group invites you to a session - Can Artists Sustain Sustainable Art? Initiated at the Belgrade Plenary in 2022, the Artists working group is a network of IETM members who identify primarily as artists. The group addresses topics connected to the performing arts sector from an artists’ point of view. It aims to create positive dialogue with other professionals in the field, and - in this meeting - questions what kind of “sustainability” they want to pursue. Environmental sustainability only exists in tandem with social and economic sustainability. Living on the Edge describes the precarity artists face. There is a gap between what the system asks and what the system affords artists. Therefore - is the performing arts’ ecosystem in good health? Can we find ways of “re-greening” our working biosphere in order for it to flourish? We invite you to investigate these questions from a local, intercultural and transcontinental perspective through a creative game based on the World Cafe method. Moderators Dalia Kiaupaite, Freelance artist, Lithuania Meagan O’Shea, Freelance artist, Canada/Germany Silvia Ribero, BILOURA Intercultural Arts Collective, Italy |

What is it going to take for society to step up, take action and drive an ecological revolution? We often hear about the polarisation of modern societies, but when it comes to climate change and vanishing landscapes, shouldn't those who want to protect the ecosystem and share liveable land unite against those who don't? Before revolutions can take place, a cultural shift needs to happen. As societal values and class aesthetics evolve, a new social organisation can emerge which is aware of its own interests and ready to take power from those who resist. 'Nature doesn't unify — it divides'.* Join us as we take a provocative dive into the sociology of the ecological transition in the first keynote address of the IETM Aarhus Plenary Meeting. *Schultz, Nikolaj, and Bruno Latour. Address: Rådhuspladsen, 8000 Aarhus C | Event Map | Venue Accessibility “So the city is as citizen, so the city is as species” is a one-day durational performative ritual which takes place from sunset to sunset, paying tribute to the diversity of life. Rebelling against the dominance of the human species, performance artist and climate activist Linh Le creates a nature zone in the middle of the city, transporting a 10-ton pile of soil by bike with the help of the community. In the soil, Linh Le connects with and brings to life the very rare plant species pentanema squarrosum, investigating habitability, interspecies meetings and communities. Pentanema squarrosum is Aarhus’ responsible species. At least 20% of the species’ total population lives in Denmark and therefore Denmark and Aarhus as the ambassador of the species has a special national responsibility to protect the species as it is globally considered rare. IETM participants and citizens of Aarhus are invited to help this project succeed by transporting the soil from Godsbanen to the city centre by bikes - and by joining one of the performance rituals conducted over the course of the day.
