One day prior to IETM Tromsø, on Wednesday 29 April, we invite you to take part in our pre-meeting trip to Blåisvatnet (the Blue Lake) in the Lyngen Alps. The region of Troms is renowned for its spectacular mountains and breath-taking views, and you will get the chance to experience the raw nature of the Arctic first-hand.
Our scenic route includes a bus trip through some of the most picturesque landscapes of the North, a traditional outdoor lunch enlivened by hot drinks, a spectacular, though fairly easy hike to Blåisvatnet, and a Kodak moment when you will get to decide whether you are brave enough to jump into the freezing cold, icy blue water.
Participation fee: € 30, non-refundable, including transport and a packed lunch that will be handed to you before departure.
Maximum: 40 participants
Registration for the pre-meeting trip will open in February 2020.
Taking part in the pre-meeting trip requires you to arrive in Tromsø on 28 April in order to be ready to leave the next morning. Our route will start in front of the Clarion Hotel The Edge at 9 am and will include a 3.5-hour hike. We are planning to be back in Tromsø at 5 pm.
Don’t forget to bring your hiking gear, warm clothes, hat, gloves, comfortable shoes, wind- and waterproofs. You will also need a rucksack to carry your packed lunch, a water bottle, a reusable coffee mug if you have one, some extra clothing and – if you dare – your swimming gear.
We will provide you with on-site instructions on how to go to the toilet in the wild.
This pre-meeting trip is not wheelchair accessible as it includes some hiking in rugged and rocky terrain.
Note that this trip is subject to weather conditions in Tromsø. If, for health and safety reasons, we are forced to make alternative arrangements, the pre-meeting trip will be redirected to another destination. We will make sure to inform you as soon as the weather forecast is confirmed.
