Bus/Metro/Train

When walking is not possible, we recommend that you use the public transport to move around in Porto.

The city’s public transport counts with an unified and zone-based tariff system valid for buses, metro and trains. The most convenient option is to purchase the rechargeable Andante card (0,60€) which allows you to combine different means of transportation (buses, metro and trains) for a trip of less than 59 minutes. The Andante card can be purchased in the ticket machines in any metro station. Before topping-up your Andante card, make sure you purchase the right credit for the zones you will be travelling in. The metro is fully accessible.

For more information on the public transport system, visit the following websites:

Taxi

Taxis circulate 24/7 all throughout the city, and are always available at taxi ranks. If you prefer, you can order a taxi by calling +351 224 835 982 (wheelchair accessible vehicles available upon request).
Generally, taxis carry up to 4 passengers, but you may request a larger vehicle if you order it by phone. A supplementary baggage fee will also be charged when transporting items larger than 55x35x20 cm.

You can also use the Cabify and Uber applications in Porto.

Porto Airport

Porto’s Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport connects the city to a variety of European and International destinations. Located 11km from Porto, the airport offers various means of an efficient transit to the Porto city.

When flying directly to Porto is too expensive, you may consider flying to Lisbon and then taking a train up north. The journey from Lisbon to Porto by train takes a little less than three hours, and prices vary from € 18 to € 30 each way, depending how far in advance you book.

Getting to/from the airport by metro
You can easily reach the city centre from the airport by metro. Line E (Purple) runs every 20 or 30 minutes, depending on the time and day of the week. You can purchase your ticket in the ticket machines in the metro station inside the airport. To go to the Porto city centre, you should buy a ticket for  zone 4 (Z4) (€ 1,95).

Getting to/from the airport by shuttle
At the airport there is a  wide range of shuttles making connections to the city centre and to many locations in the outskirts of Porto. More information is available here.
