wirklich sehen [To Really See] / katze und krieg
How do we encounter and perceive each other? What informs our contact? The two Cologne-based performers of katze und krieg dedicate their production to the proverbial “blind confidence“. They invite their audience to be led away from their expectations, from their normal ways of perception. New possibilities of interaction arise: the streets become spaces of encounter, passers-by become protagonists. An artistic answer to populism and partition scenarios: “To meet each other with confidence, which can be experienced in our performance, is something we wish for also in the bigger context of collaboration in Europe.“

katze und krieg (cat and war) consists of the two performance artists katharinajej and Julia Dick. Both live and work in Cologne, Germany. Their artistic collaboration began in 2007 during their studies at the University for Visual Arts in Braunschweig (Germany).
Their performative works happen in the public space: slowing down as much as possible, they go shopping at Aldi’s in beautiful ball gowns; screaming at the top of their lungs, they rattle fences and lamp posts to rediscover animalistic feelings or set up shop in the middle of the pedestrian zone selling performances which are supposed to satisfy every need.
