Service provider or partner in crime?

The producer’s profession is becoming increasingly important in the independent performing arts and has developed distinct, yet very diverse profiles. Nevertheless, the key challenge remains to raise more awareness and acknowledgement of the profession – in all its facets – and furthermore, to establish sustainable structures in the areas of education, exchange and networking.

Being aimed at producers, managers and agents, this encounter provides a space for an exchange of experiences, ideas and know-how. This session is a cooperation between the German Association of Independent Performing Arts, the Dachverband Tanz Deutschland (Association for Dance in Germany), the Performing Arts Program Berlin and Katja Sonnemann (free performing arts producer, Academy for Performing Arts Producer).

Whether working as an individual micro business, a loose cooperation, an agency or production office, whether you call yourself “producer”, “manager” or “agent” the question remains: Service provider or partner in crime – how do we (want to) work?

Knowing that there are numerous, very individual answers, this session provides time and space for an open exchange: It invites producers, managers, agents and everybody working with them to share their practices and knowledge, their wishes and visions around job profiles, self-conception and work models.

Marijke Schaap (The academy of Theatre and Dance/ DAS Graduate School) will give an input about the professional profil of producers et al, before we`ll split in four round table talks, each focusing on a specific question.

We are happy to announce the tables and their hosts*esses here:

Table 1: How and what do you negotiate with the artists?
Host: Victor Leclèrc, Producer – MAG.I.C International cooperation

Table 2: Which values do you define as fundament for your work?
Hostess: Mara Nedelcu, Producer

Table 3: How do you interact with different kinds of organisations, funders and audiences?
Hostess: Nicky Childs, Senior Artists` Producer - Artsadmin London

Table 4: Which formats are useful to secure knowledge transfer?
Hostess: Katja Sonnemann, Producer / Academy for Performing Arts Producer

Join us and share your experiences, best-practices, challenges, thoughts and visions!
