Pre-meeting trip to Augsburg, a city on the rise

.

Augsburg is not only the city of Brecht, Mozart and the Fugger family, but also home to a multifaceted and innovative theatre and arts scene. Together with local theatre practitioners, the participants of this pre-meeting trip will dig for the city‘s cultural roots and artistic debates, amble through city-life, and visit unusual theatre locations, like a gasometer or a techno club.

09:30 Departure from Munich Gasteig by bus
11:00 Reception in the city hall (Golden Hall)
11:30 Guided tour through Augsburg to Brecht’s house (via the sociocultural centre Kresslesmühle)

Artistic Tour in the Brechthaus, FaksTheater Augsburg
The FaksTheater Augsburg shows excerpts of their production FischFasch, an interactive theatre-parcours for people from the age of 8, turning Brecht‘s birthplace into a walk-on stage.

Grandhotel Cosmopolis, lunch (vegetarian / vegan)
The Grandhotel Cosmopolis is a social sculpture in the heart of Augsburg, combining a hotel for asylum seekers, refugees, and everyone else involved in cultural interdisciplinary activities, as well as with a cosmopolitan cuisine.

Guided walk to the City Club (via the Cathedral and the State Theatre)

City Club, theter ensemble
The theter ensemble invites the participants into the City Club, guiding them through the Café, the Club, backstage, the rehearsal rooms and workshops showing how a theatre routine can work in symbiosis with a techno club.

Visit of the water towers, BLUESPOTS PRODUCTIONS and open air stage Red Gate
BLUESPOTS PRODUCTIONS works with the media and takes the inspiration for its stories and sets from the location. Their promenade performance and masquerade piece LIEBE MACHT TOD (Love Power Death) is staged in the city‘s historic water towers.

16:45 Guided tour and artistic programme in the abraxas
Preview of Befreit, besetzt, verheiratet (Freed, occupied, married), a civic theatre project by the Junges Theater Augsburg, arts centre abraxas and the initiative Mehr Musik Augsburg!

The arts centre abraxas is a municipal institution showing guest productions of several independent companies and also the festival for media art lab30. It was built in 1937 by the National Socialists, then used by the US-Army for 50 years, and today it is a listed building for culture.

18:50 Bus trip to the gas station Oberhausen

Guided tour through the gas station and its surrounding area, introductory talk about the following theatrical event.
The whole area of the gas station and the gasometer itself are redeveloped and rededicated to become an innovative, open and exciting centre of the creative industry and the independent arts scene. From 2019, it will also be the home of Augsburg‘s State Theatre.

Der Lechner-Edi schaut ins Paradies (Lechner Edi peeps into paradise), visit of the dress rehearsal of the State Theatre Augsburg, in the “cooling building”.
The piece by Austrian author Jura Soyfer is a bitterly funny roadmovie about the beginning of industrialisation and the dispute between men and machine.

Accessibility
Special wheelchair accessible buses will not be provided. Wheelchair users will be invited to join the regular buses, if possible, and take regular seats; their wheelchairs will be transported in the luggage compartments. Most of the places we are visiting are theatre off-spaces, old buildings, which are not barrier free, and have no wheelchair accessible toilets.
