Everyday creators: friends or foes?

What makes an artist an artist? How can we encourage more people to become artists?

In this panel discussion and interactive open forum we explore whether it is possible to awaken more people to the arts and empower potential artists by supporting everyday creativity. Or is this a means to atomise artistic practices and deny artistic work as a profession that requires skills acquired through education and training?

Hello all, here's some information about Fun Palaces which might help explain my belief in the concept of Everyone an Artist - based on my own work as an artist (writer and theatremaker) for over 35 years and my work in Fun Palaces and communities for the past 6 years.

Fun Palaces believes (and has seen in practice) that everyone can and should have access to the arts not just as audiences but also as creators. We believe that culture is a great catalyst for community - especially when everyone is welcome to create - and that limiting creative engagement to those privileged enough to train/work as artists is not only detrimental to society, it is detrimental to the arts itself. What arts and culture might we have if everyone were able to contribute fully?
