European Fund for the Balkans created
IETM News - Europe - posted by IETM on 24.03.08
The European Fund for the Balkans is a multi-year joint initiative of several European Foundations aimed at bringing the Western Balkans closer to the European Union through grant-making and operational programmes.
The Fund undertakes and supports initiatives in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia (incl. Kosovo).
The European Fund for the Balkans has been initiated by the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the King Baudouin Foundation, the Compagnia di San Paolo and the ERSTE Foundation. The Fund's strategy is articulated along four main strands: Practicing Europe, Envisioning Europe, Experiencing Europe and Developing policies for the Balkans.
The Fund is now launching a call for proposals as part of its Envisioning Europe programme. Application deadline: March 20, 2008.
“Think and Link” - Regional Policy Programme for Think Tanks and Policy Institutes.
The programme seeks to foster inclusive and evidence-based policy making in the Western Balkans by initiating individual and collaborative research projects on the chosen annual programme topic: “Environmental policy in the Western Balkans – policy legacies, current institutions and European standards”, embedded in a regional seminar programme cycle.
Environment is one of the areas in which all EU applicants face significant challenges in meeting European standards. In scrutinising conditions in the environmental sector of countries making efforts towards EU integration, it is evident how the accession process affects key policy areas.
Eligibility
Applications are invited from independent policy institutes and think-tanks that focus on political, economic and social issues from the Western Balkans: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia (incl. the UN Administered Territory of Kosovo), organisations and have a proven track record in the process of EU integration. The policy programme is designed for project grants. It does not offer core funding. Proposals must be submitted by institutions, not individuals.
