See something? Say something! A discussion on free speech and agency in the arts world
Current geopolitical events - notably the atrocities in Gaza - are leading to new questions in the European and Western arts field: notably questions on free speech and agency of artistic operators. As arts workers we have platforms and voices. We have the tools to amplify other voices, speak up ourselves, support or initiate actions that speak to political issues. What role does, could or should the arts field play in the context of societal, geopolitical or humanitarian crisis? What does this look like, and how does one determine what issues to react to or not? Are there limits to what arts operators can do: legally, morally, politically? And how do different organisations develop governance and procedures around these challenges?
On 31 May 2024, Kunstenpunt organises a public conversation around these topics at the KVS in Brussels (Belgium), in the framework of KunstenfestivaldesArts.
Speakers include: Yazan Khalili as a keynote opener, Maria Dogahe (Kaaitheater and Caddy), Kasia Redzisz (Kanal), Tom Bonte (Ancienne Belgique), Bill Dietz (Overtoon), and Mary Ann de Vlieg as a moderator.
The conversation will be held in English.
